Warm-up8 min

Rising Tempo

Setup: 30×30m square. Pairs, one ball, moving anywhere inside.

How it works: Ninety seconds per gear. Gear one: walk, hand-passing on the move. Gear two: jog, give-and-go after every pass. Gear three: three-quarter pace, receiver always taking the ball at full stretch. Gear four: continuous — pass, sprint five steps, show again, no standing at all. Finish with six strides across the square. By the end they should be breathing the way they will be for the rest of the night, because everything tonight is done breathing hard.

What to say

  • Every gear change is a decision — snap into it together.
  • Hands up early as a target, even when the lungs complain.
  • Quality doesn't get tired first — concentration does.

Easier

Longer at gears one and two; skip gear four.

Harder

Gear four with two balls per group of four.
