County trials reward the player who does the simple things at full speed and recovers from mistakes in one breath — rehearse exactly that, once, hard, before the big Saturday.

Arrive-Ready RAMP
Setup: A 40×20m channel. Players wear taped numbers, not names — from the first minute, tonight runs like the trial will. Coaches address players by number only.
How it works: Run the warm-up they must be able to run alone in a car park before a trial, because county trial warm-ups are chaotic and the prepared player owns hers or his. Three minutes easy jog with a ball through the channel. Dynamic series called at pace: lunges, hip openers, leg swings on a cone, two inchworms. Ramp the speed: strides at 70, 80, 90 per cent with walk-backs, then three honest five-metre starts. Finish with 60 seconds of sharp pairs hand-passing, weak hand included — first touch must be trial-ready before the first drill, not during it.
What to say
- “Learn this sequence — Saturday you'll run it on your own.”
- “Numbers, not names, from here on. Answer to yours fast.”
- “Warm-up standard equals trial standard — sloppy here is sloppy there.”
Easier
Coach leads every rep with demos; strides cap at 80 per cent.
Harder
Players run the entire sequence unled in pods of four while coaches only observe — the true trial rehearsal.
The rest of this session is free — along with 3 more this week.
