The best chance you get all match is the second after you win the ball back — their defence is not set, the space is real, and the team that breaks fast and sure will beat the team that admires the turnover. Tonight we make the break a habit.

Win and Go
Setup: A 30×25m grid with a target line at each end. Even teams in bibs, a big supply of balls at the coach's feet on the side. Take the mobility jobs seriously before any sprinting.
How it works: Open with a proper prep — hips, hamstrings, calves, a build of strides — because the night is about breaking at pace and cold hamstrings do not forgive. Then a reactive keep-ball: the coach rolls a loose ball into the grid at random moments and whichever team pounces on it must immediately break and carry it over the far line before the other team resets. So the trigger is trained from the first minute: ball loose, we do not settle, we go. Keep the rounds short and the recoveries honest, and build the sprint intensity gradually across the block.
What to say
- “Tell them: 'the second it's ours, we're gone — no admiring it.'”
- “Tell them: 'first thought forward — eyes up the pitch straight away.'”
- “Tell them: 'warm the hamstrings properly — we're sprinting tonight.'”
Easier
Coach announces which team gets the loose ball so the reaction is simpler; jog the breaks in the first rounds.
Harder
STEPR: two balls live at once so decisions come faster; the winning team must complete the break within a five-count or it doesn't count.
